QUAKE Quake Series Book 1 edition by Jacob Chance Contemporary Romance eBooks
Quake is a hard book to rate as it felt like several books pieced together. First part almost reads like a dark romance with an over-sexed stalker. By mid-book it turned into regular "dating with dark secrets" romance, then suddenly near the end it turn into suspense when the FMC was kidnapped and MMC have to mount a rescue. Then it ended up a bit of a cliffhanger...Kyle is a retired cop turn P.I., and while investigating a different case with hidden cameras he had a chance to observe college student Janny Moore (without her knowing) and he quickly developed an obsession with her, and he vowed to woo her in every way... but when he had to reveal HOW did he knew her, will that drive her into his arms, or drive her away for good?
As I said before the first part of the book was Kyle constantly thinking about his dick (which was NOT a pun about him being a private dick) and how he really really want to bonk the FMC, Janna, senseless having watched her too many times, in various states of dress (and undress) when he's supposed to be watching her brother. But when he meets Janna for real, he's a perfect gentleman who made her very happy, right up to the point when he must tell the truth ahead of schedule. Then it switched gear into suspense and rescue. The personalities don't fit together.

Firstly I loved this book! Secondly the way this is written you wouldn’t think it was Jacob Chance’s debut novel.
Kyle McKenzie is a retired cop turned P.I. While on the job he stumbles across Janny Moore. She’s young, gorgeous and immediately catches Kyle’s attention, and he knows he needs to get to know her somehow.
“She’s nev***er set eyes on me. She has no idea I exist…. but she will”.
As soon as I started the prologue to this I knew I was hooked, I read this in one sitting. Jacob Chance held my attention all the way through. Janny was sweet, kind but also independent and a little sassy, whereas Kyle is strong, dominant and determined. This is more than just a romance novel, there’s suspense thrown in there too.
This book is gripping and HOT in places, you are going to need that fan on while you’re reading this, but you also get the other side of him, the side that will make you want to hold on to him and not let go. Let me tell you Kyle McKenzie has just made it on to my BBF list!
Quake is told in dual POV and is a definite MUST READ! But BEWARE there’s a cliffy I’m afraid, but this is going leave you wanting so much more… bring on book 2 I say. Jacob Chance is definitely a new author to look out for and will be going on my definite 1-click list. This book is AWESOME!
5 massive stars!
Sarah!
There are a lot of things I liked about his writing. Obviously I can only comment as a reader. I am no expert when it comes to writing a book! I would've liked the private investigative part of this story to have been developed more gradually. I felt that at the end of the book all of these things were suddenly found out that brought the story to it's conclusion. For example, had he been figuring out that some of those things were concurring the author could have demonstrated a protective part of him while separated from her. Instead of using the good old standby of the guy getting lost in the bottle for days on end after a break up. I feel using his cop/PI part of his character to good use during that time would've allowed the story to have flowed better. Again, just my opinion as a reader. I would never say I could sit down and write it!
Most important thing I can say is that I would read this author again. And it's true I would. Looking forward to September!
Quake is the first book in a two part series by debuting author Jacob Chance. With both the author and the book being surrounded by a lot curiosity and hype, expectations are automatically set high. So, when readers are introduced to Kyle McKenzie and Janny Moore, an emotional journey filled with lust, lies and love ensues. Keeping readers engrossed from beginning to end, Jacob Chance’s introduction into the indie world does not disappoint.
Following Kyle McKenzie and his infatuation with Janny Moore, Quake brings to life the foundations of this unconventional love story. Told from both Kyle and Janny’s perspective, Quake manages to give readers insight into both the past and present of each character. With each chapter unraveling more of their relationship; their connection deepens. Having every intention to bask in a happily ever after, Kyle and Janny’s relationship seems to be solid. But, when secrets are revealed and feelings are hurt, nothing but uncertainty lingers.
Jacob Chance manages to incorporate a perfect amount of drama and emotion into Quake. With a steady pace throughout; each storyline is given the appropriate amount of time to inform and unfold. Impressively adding depth and detail, not often seen in a book of this length; Jacob Chance’s use of sex and secrets successfully sets the tone for this series and will have readers undoubtedly coming back for more.
